AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE? (IN THE CLOSET) Musings on whether it is still true that a chair means a flat, as the song says. This original auteur production continues the cycle of original work initiated by the Johan Centre in Pilsen, based on interest in and study of current social affairs. We are interested in the world in which we live, and we believe that art is meant to touch the sensitive moments of our lives.
This time we look at housing, flat-sharing, lack of housing. We want to talk about the impossibility of living independently, without parents, without unchosen and unchoosy flatmates. Housing that gives you a chance to pay the rent, to pay off loans, pay mortgages and the other chains and fetters that postpone your chance of a dignified life. We are struck by the situation of many of our friends and colleagues, who even after a successful career start and successful study, when embarking on adult life have to live like children, at home or in something almost like a boarding school.
What, then, about those who are not lucky enough to have successful study behind them, or a successful career start, and may not have a functional family? We want to use art to ask whether housing is a basic human right. What sort of housing? Costing how much? For whom? For what? And what about Friends?
